Absence Of Something

Marylou Mansfield

Old clock on the wall shows absence of time,
Inability to keep pace,
Vague accounting of each day.

Soul is distracted,
Following thoughtless rabbit trails,
Remiss of reality.

Aspirations are dimmed.
They move far away from each other,
In distance from the heart.

Daydreaming hides the spirit,
Oblivious to truth,
Preoccupied with nothing.

Writer’s pen scribes blank volumes.
Musing blends no words.
Pages remain undressed.

Be vigilant, aging mind.
Stay attentive.
Bind your moments together with the sinews of your life.
