Melissa draws her inspiration from psychology and social dilemmas. She has been writing stories since she was in the third grade, encouraged by the writers in her family. She chooses to work with abstract and science fiction genres because they allow more flexibility in creating a “social laboratory of what ifs”. Having been published in several newspapers and periodicals in addition to being the Teen Editor for BellaOnline, Melissa is working on finishing her science fiction novel, Miridia, which centers around themes of ethical dilemmas and multiculturalism. Melissa was home-schooled from K-12 while traveling around the country with her family, completed her undergraduate work with honors at Washington State University and is finishing her graduate studies in social work at Boston College.
