The Secret Mocking of Hestia

Patricia Maulding

Perfumes and a map of the world
rules the East
rules the West
takes tea in silence
in waves of nautical twilight;
Surfaces and dives
like an emerald mermaid
catching the current
and everyoneŽs eye;

Like jewels
for wisdom
and the pearls that elude her
like moons and tides;
Venus and Jupiter

SheŽll fade into dusk
and have a star named for her,
all the while
secretly mocking Hestia,
she knows.
She knows.
