Peacock Butterfly

Angelika Teuber

Not, exactly, asleep,
more meditating;
a prayer to the sun,

two dusty hearts
anchored in a center,
hairy and brown,

pulsing in slow motion
to an ancient drum,
floral scent induced trance,

brightly lit insignia,
intersecting geometrics
like a Kandinsky,

velvet lined pads ready to
carry courage and spirit
into the fragrant warm air.

Imagine being still,
listening to the sun’s
stroke on your back.

What if it is
that easy?

Open your eyes
and take flight.
