The Seasons Healed Me

Linda M. Crate

dreamed about you once upon a time,
and then you became
mine;
but i lost you
in a fleeting second i cannot recall
suddenly our castle crumbled
you had found yourself
a mistress
but somehow it was all my fault—
i cried for so long
even winter started to mourn with me and spring
withheld her warmth as she refused
to shine bright as the dawn,
and winter´s cold comfort only made my tears
sting worse;
if i were a better woman i wouldn´t have been so selfish
with the seasons but i was bitter and broken and hurt
every happy couple made me so angry
i wanted them to be shipwrecked in a furious ocean
wave and living on a secluded isle where
i didn´t have to see their romance—
but i am okay now,
and spring marched in and sewed my heart back together
summer reminded me i am a phoenix ascending
from my ashes
and autumn reminded me to bloom like a lily;
winter scorned you in his last sapphire kiss to me.
