Nature Degraded, Yet Bountiful

Sunil Sharma

A wind-kissed tree of Gulmohar
Unfurls a green parasol
On the sweating commuters
Waiting in an irregular line for the bus
On this Mumbai afternoon.

Nature bountiful
Urban desolation
Great relief!

The human species
Raiding nature
For their greed.

Yet the silent trees
Keep them covered
In summers/monsoons
Like uncomplaining mothers!
