32 Teeth

Billy Manas

Absent were the trappings of the typical break up
Breakdowns, slammed doors nowhere to be seen
Everything politely arranged before mother
Sterile, lifeless with pristine utility
As if a perforation existed from day one
As if it became dog eared and made weak with time
And all we needed was the slightest flick of the wrist
To render it equal, neatly in two
And Iīm back in the town where all of this started
When we were young and I had 32 teeth
One guitar and too many dreams
But I didnīt have it so good in those days
I have so much now I can lose this or that
And not even notice for days or at all
And you have a porcupine (I noticed that)
But Sunday morning can go both ways
Mine went better than any ones I guess
Eating cupcakes with two little girls
Did for my soul what a shower does for
A man in the morning who worked all night
And passed out in his boots
