Quilting

Elaine Frankonis

The curve of wing
is where it begins, the play
of breaking waves on beach
glass caught in the scramblings
of terns, scuttlings of crabs.

The movement of the bay
stitches green seaweed threads
that serge the rocky coastline.
A mauve sunset blankets sand,
sends red ripples across an azure sea.

What happens next
is a gift for the gods
to slumber beneath
and dream the stage where
poets and quilters meet.
