Moving On

Thalia Dunn

You moved on
and to my surprise,
life kept moving
on as well.

I had imagined
I would
curl up,
shrivel away
into a shadow
of who I had been
without you
in my life
to love.

Yet life pushes on.

I roll out of bed,
shuffle through my days
stretching into weeks,
then months,
until your memory,
always there,
begins to lessen

and I look around
and see the beckoning light of stars
at night
instead
of barren bleakness.
