What's playing on May 1?

May's a fantastic month for movies, ranging in genre to suit all tastes and moods. The following titles are just some of the movies opening in the first weekend of May.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

We all know him-the suave, sexy man with a silver tongue. In Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, it's celebrity photographer, Connor Mead (played by Matthew McConaughey) who lives for freedom and women. He's the stereotypical bachelor whose unorthodox ways are puzzling to his family, who is planning a wedding for his younger brother, Paul. Before the wedding, Connor gets multiple visits by the ghosts of former girlfriends who take him on a self-revealing journey, as he discovers there is still hope for his true love.

Battle for Terra

Inhabitants of a peaceful world encounter human warriors who want full control. "Battle for Terra is a solid, though not sugarcoated, animated film for the whole family," says Tom Keogh in a review for The Seattle Times. "Terra is also among the new breed of technologically sophisticated movies playing in 3D. It won't give you a headache if you peek at the screen without special glasses, and it largely eschews cheesy 3D effects."
