Documentaries About Twins

If you are a twin, or are raising twins, you've most likely run across an Oleson Twins movie or watched Arnold Schwartzenegger and Danny DeVito in "Twins"; but there are many other films out there that document the real, day-to-day life of unique sets of twins. Here are a few that might interest you.

The Twin Connection
Produced by A&E, this documentary explores the twin bond, including the sometimes psychic connection between twins.

In The Womb: Multiples
This groundbreaking National Geographic documentary explains how multiples relate in the womb and afterwards. A great website, too (click above).

Red Without Blue
This film follows identical twin brothers, one transgender and the other gay, as they work through establishing their identities and definition of family.

Dreams and Dilemmas
This short film follows a couple before, during and after their premature twins are born. As the family makes tough choices, we watch and empathize with their situation.

Normal For Us: The Miller Twins
This PBS documentary follows an incredibly resilient family of five, two of whom are wheel-chair bound girls.

A Baby Story: Baby Bernstein
This episode of TLC's A Baby Story focuses on a woman's conception of twins after struggling with infertility. Available for online download.

Pangpang Broder (Twin Brothers) German Documentary
This very intriguing documentary was filmed by the uncle of twin boys and covers their first eighteen years. One twin is the tallest boy in his class; the other has a condition that causes dwarfism.

Emma's Gift
This engaging film tells the story of twin sisters, Emma and Abigale. Emma has Down Syndrome, Abigale does not. The attitudes and choices of their parents are explored, along with social issues surrounding the disabled and twins.

Adoption 1
This film details the experiences of American parents who adopt Vietnamese twins, starting with the adoption process and moving through the first few months as parents. Other parents also share their stories.

Twins, by Mary Ellen Mark and Martin Bell
This DVD includes wonderful photographs of twins taken by Mary Ellen Mark at Twins Days in Twinsburg, Ohio. The DVD also includes interviews with the twins, where each answers 20 questions posed by Mark's husband, Martin Bell.

Sound and the Fury
This film focuses on the issue of whether or not to implant cochlear implants in non-hearing children. In one family's case, one twin was deaf and the other hearing. Their struggle to come to the right decision for their family is poignant and interesting.
