Last Minute Valentine Card

If you’ve procrastinated and you need a last minute Valentine, here is a simple to make but very impressive card.

This is a gatefold card, meaning both sides fold to the center-only I like asymmetrical balance, so both sides fold towards the center but overlap slightly to the right. I also challenged myself to use only items form my “stash”. The paper is from My Mind’s Eye and the sticker and brad are from Hot Off The Press.
If you have Valentine’s Day all taken care of, change the colors, sentiment and elements, and you have a beautiful card for any other occasion.

You will need:

White cardstock
Red striped paper
Red grungy paper
Rose sticker
Computer and printer or rubber stamp
Double heart brad
Glue stick and dimensional adhesive
Craft knife and cutting mat
Metal edged Ruler
Pencil

1. Cut a piece of white cardstock 10” by 7”. Measure 3 ¼ “ from one short edge and fold toward the center. Measure 2 ¼” from the other short side and fold toward the center. This is your card base.
2. Apply adhesive to the front of the larger folded area. Adhere the striped paper here. Turn the card over and trim off the excess paper.
3. Apply adhesive to the other front panel. Adhere the red grungy paper here. Turn the card over and trim off the excess.
4. Cut a piece of red grungy paper into a 3” square. Adhere the rose sticker in the center.
5. Mount this to a piece of white cardstock with dimensional adhesive . Trim, leaving a 1/8” border on all sides.
6. Print or rubberstamp the sentiment, Happy Valentine’s Day, with black ink. Trim to ¾” by 3”. Adhere to a scrap of grungy red cardstock and trim, leaving a 1/8” border. Adhere this to a scrap of white cardstock and trim, again leaving a 1/8” border.
7. Close both flaps of the card. Use dimensional adhesive to adhere the rose element to the front of the card as shown. Adhere the sentiment below. Make sure you only apply adhesive on the right front flap, so the card will open.
8. Use the tip of the craft knife to make a slit for the prongs of the brad. Insert the prongs and position the double heart brad as shown.
9. Open the card and apply adhesive on the back of the front flap. Adhere striped paper here to cover the brad prongs. Trim to fit.
10. Apply red grunge paper to the inside of the other flap in the same manner.
11. Write a message of your choice on the inside of the card.
