A Love Like No Other Review

There are thousands of adoption books on the market today. Some cover the domestic adoption process, while others cover international adoption. It's not uncommon to see spinets of adoption stories in both types of books. What is uncommon, however, is to really get a sense of someone's life after adoption. While most books do a good job of describe what you can expect along your adoption journey, too few of them describe adoption after the fact.

Finally, there is one book that does just that. A Love Like No Other: Stories From Adoptive Parentsis a one of a kind, must have book for anyone who's ever been curious about adoption.

This book does not provide adoption statistics, time lines, laws, forms, home study information, etc. Instead, it provides real stories from adoptive families. Twenty amazing contributors give the emotional and heartfelt details about their adoption experiences.

Some of the experiences you'll hear about include domestic, international, and trans racial adoptions. You'll explore the journey to locate a birth mother many miles away in another country, despite protests from family and other adoptive parents. You will also hear the realities of open verses closed adoptions, and lessons learned from going through a divorce with two young children.

Unlike many other books on adoption, you won't hear from social workers or experts specializing in adoption. Certainly these professionals have a wealth of information that is a crucial part of the adoption process. For the purpose of this book, however, that information is not necessary. What is necessary are the experiences of different families with one common ground: adoption.

A Love Like No Other shows that whether you have adopted domestically, internationally, have adopted while single, married, with a life partner, or divorced, children will continue to have questions about their adoption. Their questions, thoughts, and feelings don't simply disappear after the adoption is finalized. As these stories share, that's when the questions often begin. Each contributor has done an extraordinary job showing how to tackle the tough questions with love, honesty, and compassion. They truly show what a love like not other is all about.

A Love Like No Other is edited by Pamela Kruger and Jill Smolowe.
