As many of you may be aware, HBO is planning on airing an episode of their program, "Big Love", that is said to depict what their writers understand to be sacred temple ceremonies. Although it is understandably easy to become offended by such a mockery of the ordinances we hold dear and sacred, our church leaders have addressed the issue in a Christ-like manner. They have released an official statement concerning the matter, and I have included a link for you at the bottom of this article.
We are reminded in the statement, "As Elder M. Russell Ballard and Elder Robert D. Hales of the Council of the Twelve Apostles have both said recently, when expressing themselves in the public arena, Latter-day Saints should conduct themselves with dignity and thoughtfulness."
The war of the adversary is raging all around us. He will use anything he can to discourage us and make a mockery of the things of God. It is up to us as members of the church to stand for what is right and sometimes the best way to do that is with grace and dignity. If we keep the spirit with us in our hearts, we will know what to say and when to say it. The Lord is with us always if we let Him.
I think that perhaps this is a wonderful opportunity for us to discuss with our non-member friends and families the wonderful blessings of the temple. Many do not understand why we build temples and why we hold them sacred. In response to this, the church has put out a short video that explains why we build temples.
Let us remember the words of President Gordon B. Hinckley, and take this opportunity to "Stand a little taller."
