The ceramic barrel heats evenly without 'hot spots' that can occur in metal barrel. My daughter tells me that it smoothes her hair better than any iron she has owned in the past.
She loves that she can control the temperature, (there are 30 heat settings), so she can cool it down to curl her youngest daughter's hair without fear of burning it.
Since she is a working mom she likes the fact that it heats completely in 60 seconds. This helps her get her daughters to school and herself to work on time.
