Craft Tips

Here is a collection of tips from the weekly Crafty Kids Newsletter.

-Concerned with little ones eating glue? Mix flour and water together into a thick paste and bring to a slow boil on the stove allow to cool and you have an edible glue mixture.

-Recycle parts from different craft projects to make a new craft. Small photo collages can be made into a mobile then taken apart and put on a card or decopauged to make a nice gift.

-If you find your kids getting frustrated with the glue creating ‘bumps’ try using a glue stick or putting some glue onto a paper towel and spreading it on that way.

-To help keep all your craft supplies in one place try using a sewing box to hold and organize everything.

-Craft projects make great anytime gifts! When you find the craft project pile is almost to the ceiling have your kids pick something to send to a grandparent, even if they live across town!

-Transfixed about what to do with all those holiday crafts from last year that are still lying around? A month or so before that holiday gather all the crafts that your kids couldn’t part with and create holiday baskets for your local senior center.

-Save the scraps of paper from yours kids projects and have them decoupage the scraps onto a vase for a unique gift.

-Do you have tons of left overs from craft projects that the kids have lost interest in? Send out an e-mail and see if anyone is willing to swap for a new craft.

-Quality matters. Go ahead and spend a little extra money on your craft supplies. That few cents you save on the price for some products doesn’t add up if you have to throw away supplies because they break if the quality is low.

-Use craft projects to explore cultures from around the world.

-Craft supplies seem to be multiplying on their own? Cover and decorate a diaper box and store all your basic craft supplies in it.

-If you have some glue strands from a hot glue gun use a hair dryer to get rid of them.

-Need to keep the house clean but the kids want to do messy crafts? Move out to the garage or basement. Most basements and garages have a drain in the floor you can take some buckets of water and pour over the mess and let run down the drain. No need to mop before company comes over.
