Pom Pom Crafts

Large Pompom Wreath – suitable for hanging in the window
This is an easy craft that children can do with minimal assistance which makes it the perfect indoor activity (once they are involved and working independently) – you can work on other holiday projects, yet be close at hand should they need you.

Materials needed:

Paper plate- it helps if it is green, but any plate will work just fine
Red and green pompoms any size
White Glue
Scissors
Yarn
Hole punch - optional

What to do:

• Fold the plate in half and make a small cut in the center.
• Unfold the plate and using the small cut, insert the scissors and cut out the center part of the plate.
• The smaller the hole circle is cut the wider the wreath will be.
• Pour out some white glue onto a small paper plate or plastic lid.
• Show the children how to dip the pompom into the glue then place it on the plate.
• Continue gluing the pompoms on the plate until it is covered.
• You can use a single-hole paper punch or the scissors to make two holes about an inch apart.
• Use the yarn to make a small loop to hang the wreath.
Optional: let the wreath dry and then glue more pompoms to the other side of the wreath. Then when it hangs in the window it can be enjoyed from both inside and out.

Small Pompom Wreath – similar to the project above, but using a smaller paper plate.

Pompom Christmas Tree

Vary the sizes of your trees by using different sized paper plates, and make a forest of trees to display down the dinner table, or in among other holiday decorations.

Materials needed:

Lots of green pompoms
Green paper plate
1/4 inch pompoms
Scissors
White glue

What to do:

• Cut a slit into the center of the plate.
• Fold the plate into a cone shape and staple or tape into a tree shape – with the green side out.
• Pour out some white glue onto a small paper plate or plastic lid.
• Show the children how to dip the pompom into the glue then place it on the plate.
• Continue gluing the pompoms on the plate until the tree shape is covered.
• Using the ¼” colored pompoms glue them on to represent tree lights or ornaments.
