How to Write an Exceptional Essay

Alright, you’re more than likely reading this article because you’re teacher has just assigned an essay assignment! You’re panicking because you’ve never written an essay in your life and you don’t know exactly where to begin. I’m here to tell you that it would be good for you to calm down. Even though it might take a lot of work, you really shouldn’t panic about these kinds of things. Everyone has to write an essay at one point or another during their time in school. But if you’ve ever written an essay before, you’re more than likely aware of the time and energy that goes into creating one. Here are a few rules you should follow when crafting the perfect essay:

1.) Keep away from all distractions! Stay focused! Don't listen to any form of loud music, play video games, or partake in pointless gossip. Your main focus should be to finish your essay. Think of writing you’re essay like being in a conversation with a close friend. You wouldn’t want someone to become easily distracted while they were talking to you in mid-sentence, would you? Of course not! That is why it is important to stay focused on the task at hand. Realize that the assignment isn’t going to write itself. Only you can start and finish it.

2.) If you have to choose your own topic, choose a topic you care about! Writing about something you love makes a huge difference when constructing your essay. Being passionate about a certain topic will make it easier to write about that particular subject, opening your mind to an endless array of possibilities.

3.) Create an outline! Plan out what you're going to write about in the form of bullets points or numbers. This strategy has always worked for me whenever I’m trying to figure out what to say in an article. By using this simple technique, you are paving the way towards an organized and well-researched form of writing. This process also allows you to organize your thoughts before you actually type them.

4.) Crafting the introduction! Now that I’ve shown you how to outline your essay, I’m going to tell you what’s supposed to go in the essay itself. In order for the essay to stand out, you must have complete organization and structure. Ask yourself, “Why should the reader care about what I have to say? What can they learn from it?” This is where you should make the reader WANT to keep reading all that you have written. The sole purpose of this opening paragraph is to grab the attention of the reader so that they will become enticed by what you have to say. In this paragraph, make sure you state exactly what you’re going to talk about and when you’re going to talk about. Next, make a thesis statement that truly stands out! This sentence usually should come at the end of the paragraph and it should make the reader want to keep on reading.

5.) Making the Body! Now that you have finished your extraordinarily gripping introduction, it’s time to write the body of the essay. The body of an essay is usually composed of three paragraphs with details in each paragraph that support your thesis statement that is in the introduction. For example, if you’re writing about how much you love pizza, one paragraph could describe why you love pizza. The next paragraph could describe why you love different types of pizza, and the third paragraph could describe why you love the taste of pizza. There, of course, are many other topics to write about besides pizza but the point is that you must be sure that your three body paragraphs make sense.

6.) The Conclusion, a.k.a The Big Finish! This is the big ending that sums everything up! While you are writing your conclusion, it’s important to know that this paragraph should NOT add any new information at this point. This is simply because any information that you have to say should have been mentioned earlier within the body paragraphs. The point of the conclusion paragraph is to basically re-state your thesis statement. Think of it as saying, “This is why I…” or “This is why…is important to me.”

7.) Revise until you’re certain that everything is right! This is one of the most important factors to consider when writing an essay. One of the most beneficial aspects of being a writer is the fact that we have to make constant revisions to whatever we are writing so that it’s absolutely perfect. Many teachers take off points for simple errors that you might overlook such as misspellings, improper grammar usage, and other things of that nature. So, it is important to make sure that your paper is absolutely free from any mistakes that you might have made while writing.

In conclusion, just have fun and make wise decisions when planning your essay! Don’t panic, don’t stress out, and make sure that you have all your information in your essay set up in a way that is appealing to the reader. If you follow these rules, I guarantee that you will receive a passing grade on your next essay!
