Iím Michelle, your editor and fellow teenager at heart. Although my teenage years are behind me, I have never forgotten that time in my life. It was fun, exciting, scary, lonely, crowded, quiet, noisy, confusing, connected, disconnected, silly, serious, and survivable.
You could say I have never really stopped being a teenager in some ways. I am a digital illustrator/doodler, and I write young adult fiction. My personal reading library is filled with books about teen characters, books written by teen authors as well as nonfiction books about teenagers. In the past, I have worked as a morning show radio personality/operations manager for a rock station and as a feature writer for a newspaper. Many of my articles featured teenagers and their stories of triumph and trials.
I live close to a middle school and high school and spend time talking with students about what they read, what they do, who they are and who they want to be. They talk, I listen. I also work with teens who wish to express themselves through creativity. Together we have made collages, written stories, and put on puppet shows for their siblings.
Why did I choose to write for this site? Because I believe that along with the good, happy, sad, or almost impossible things that come along with being a teen, itís also a very important period of time in your life. This is your time to make decisions about your future. This is the time where your confidence grows as your hopes get bigger and YOU make your dreams come true. Your world and mind is suddenly filled with decisions about your belief systems and the part you can play in making changes in our world. YOU are our future and your voice and ideas are important and necessary to all of us.
This is your site. I would love to hear your ideas, dreams and hopes. Write to me with your questions or article suggestions. I look forward to hearing from you.
A Tad Bit More About Me:
My husband and I live in Ohio with two rescue cats and two rescue dogs. The dogs are new to us and we are first-time dog owners. A member of the high school football team had to help me untangle myself and the dogs from around a stop sign on our first walk. Since that time, the dogs, who are still teens themselves, have made many new friends at the high school. I also have a passion for red licorice and I play the concert ukulele.
