Soul Eater revolves around three teams that consist of a weapons meister and at least one human weapon (a weapon that takes on human form). The meisters are trying to turn their weapon into a "Death Scythe," a weapon fit to be used by their academy's headmaster. In order to do this, the teams must collect the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch; the souls must be collected in this order, or they have to restart from the very beginning.
The first team we meet in Soul Eater consists of a female meister named Maka Albarn, and her weapon partner, Soul Eater. They are students at the Death Weapon Meister Academy, which is located in the fictional city of Death City in Nevada, United States. Maka's father is a Death Scythe, but her relationship with her father is strained, due to her father's flirtations with women leading to her parents' divorce. Maka is obsessed with turning Soul into a Death Scythe that will surpass her father.
In the first episode, Maka and Soul get their 99th evil soul, which happens to belong to Jack the Ripper. Then, they go after Blair the witch, who turns out to be a rather buxom woman who tries to seduce Soul away from Maka. Together, they end up defeating Blair and take her soul; however, they discover that Blair is actually a cat with magical powers who has nine lives. This means that Soul didn't actually get a witch's soul, so Maka and Soul must start all over again at acquiring the souls they need. During the series, we also meet Black Star and his weapon partner Tsubaki, as well as Death the Kid and his weapon partners Liz and Patty.
When FUNimation released Soul Eater, they gave the series a rating of TV-14. There is definitely some fanservice moments, such as hinted at nudity with Blair in the first episode. There are also some elements of violence, but it's not overly gory. Personally, I would recommend Soul Eater to anime viewers who are 15 or 16 years of age and older.
