Getting around with multiples can seem like a very daunting task, especially when you are going at it alone. However, staying at home until they're 18 years old is not an option. Getting fresh air is a wonderful way to perk up your mood! Here are a couple of tips that will help you make it an easier task.
If your babies are newborns, you might want to start out by taking short trips and slowly increase the time that you are out and about with them. Have your diaper bag packed with extra diapers, pacifiers, toys, blankets and at least one extra change of clothing. You might want to do this preparation the night before so that you are not overwhelmed with details the morning of your travels.
Run out the door when they have just been fed and changed. This way you've maximized the time available before you need to head back home.
If your babies are now at a toddler age, you might find that bringing along snacks, toys and even their favorite blanket might help. Anything that will be able to soothe the babies and give them a bit of comfort in a non-familiar environment will go a long way!
Make sure your babies are dressed appropriately. This might sound like common sense, but many times when babies cry it's only because they just aren't comfortable. Don't worry about the hair bows or the fluffy dresses. The less frills the better. If it's breezy-err on the side of caution and use the sweater-better safe than sorry.
Another great tip is to go when your babies are due to nap. This way, they're more likely to take a snooze-prolonging your shopping or exercise.
Don't not get flustered if the babies just wouldn't cooperate. Tomorrow is another day. Try not to put so much on your “To Do List”. You might want to start by just putting something as simple as going to check the mail on your list.
Need to go to the supermarket for a couple of things and can't imagine how you'd be able to manage putting the car seats in two separate carts? Think outside of the box. Put the babies in the stroller and grab a basket.
Anything is possible-and as parents of multiples we need to be creative when it comes to normal, daily activities. One of my favorite quotes is “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” by Henry Ford.
