| Another new feature that is great for projects such as photo books and greeting cards, is the new Text tool. You have three options with this new tool, Text on a Shape, Text on a Custom Path and Text on a Selection. To add text to a shape, simply select your shape from the drop-down menu, draw the shape on the photo, format the text with the familiar Type menus and type in your message. The text will follow along the edge of the shape that you have drawn.|
We are all familiar with the text on a path feature but it's now so much easier to create this effect in Elements 10. You simply choose the Text on a Custom Path tool and it will change to a pen tool so that you can draw your freehand path. Set the path by clicking the green checkmark and the tool turns back into the Text tool. Then start typing.
The Text on a Selection tool works much like the Text on a Custom Path. When you select this tool, it changes into a selection tool for selecting an area of the photo. Then it changes back to a Text tool for typing the text onto the photo.
The Create tab is what makes Elements more than just a photo editing software. With Elements 10 you have some new professionally designed templates for your photo projects including the Designer Elegant and School Notes. As in previous versions, Elements will place your photos in the Project Bin where you can drag them into your project. You can use the Editor tools, including the new Text tools, on your projects and save the results in both JPEG and PDF formats.
The Elements Organizer can sync to multiple computers and you can use the new Photoshop Express app to browse your photos from your iOS or Android device. As with previous upgrades, Elements 10 supports your Adobe Plus account. If I had to choose one thing that I would like to change it would be the separation of the Elements Editor and Organizer windows. I would prefer they be tabbed so that you could quickly switch between the two within the same workspace window.
