Dr. Laura Nelson, a highly respected thoracic surgeon at thirty-four-years old, was angry because her surgical team could not save a ten-year-old girl who had been in an car accident. Lauraís husband, Steve, a co-anchor for Channel Eight News in Tampa Bay, Florida, and his co-anchor, were on the chopping block due to falling ratings.
When Laura came home that tragic night, she found Steve and Kim in a compromising position. Heart-broken, she returned to the hospital, only to run into a personal injury lawyer determined to help get compensation from the little girlís father the only surviving family member.
During the next couple of weeks, Laura kicks Steve out of the house, he gets fired from his job, and he begins to plot his next move. When Steve doesnít bring their children home after a visit, Laura shows up at Steveís new apartment where she finds Kimís body. Before she can call the police, they show up at the door and arrest her on suspicion of Kimís murder.
As the family disintegrates while Laura is suspended from her job pending her trial for Kimís murder, Lauraís thoughts are on her five children and how she can protect them from harm.
Although Steve wiped out their bank account, Laura taped into a hidden cache unknown to her husband. With that money she was able to hire lawyers and an investigator to help her get her children and her life back together.
Twisted Justice, written by Patricia Gussin, takes a look at a family that seems to have everything, and how easily circumstances can unravel the fragile ties that are sometimes hidden within an otherwise happy home. The tragic results of poor timing and bad decisions not only take a toll on the parents, but upend the children as well.
Laura and Steve Nelson were first introduced in Shadow of Death. Twisted Justice picks up their story seven years later. Gussin combines personal experience with an avid imagination to create a powerful story of love found and lost because of betrayal and shifting values, and how far a mother will go to protect her children.
This hard-hitting novel sets the pace in the first paragraph and never lets up. Readers are in for a roller coaster ride that will keep them turning pages and possibly burning the midnight oil in an effort to keep up with the Nelson family until the shocking climax.
