Today is the 4th July, in America this is a big holiday however I write my quotations site from England. I thought it would be interesting to explore this holiday to readers that possibly aren't American and don't know what it entails.
What is the 4th July about?
This holiday refers to a day celebrated in the states called Independence Day. It is a day which commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776 which declared independence from Britain. This was a big time for the Americans and held a great deal of importance. This day is now celebrates with fireworks, parades, carnivals, family games, ceremonies, etc.
"Freedom is never given. It is won."
“The greatest lesson we can learn from the past. . . is that freedom is at the core of every successful nation in the world.”
“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty.” John Fitzgerald Kennedy
"America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand." H.S Truman
"Let every American, every lover of liberty, every well wisher to his posterity, swear by the blood of the Revolution, never to violate in the least particular, the laws of the country; and never to tolerate their violation by others." Abraham Lincoln
"You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism." Erna Bombeck
I looked through many quotes and sayings which were associated with this holiday and decided to pick out several for you to read which had two different themes. Some of these quotes represent freedom and the liberty that they felt by being granted independence and the other quotes mark important figures in history who themselves comment on this huge holiday as being patriotic and the strength of their country.
This helped me understand more on what the 4th of July was about.
