Ten Tips for Indian Summer Travel

Summer months make travel in India for fun or business cumbersome. It would be best to plan trips during non summer months especially if you are not used to sultry weather.

However, an Indian summer trip can be pleasant if only you take a few precautions and make sure the heat does not get at you. In case you find yourself braving the Indian heat between March and June, the tips below will help you keep fit for your travel plans. Make sure you read and follow them to avoid dehydration and heat strokes!

1)Wear cotton outfits and make sure you avoid clothes made from synthetic fabrics to enjoy your outings on hot days.

2)Drink plenty of water. There can be no substitute for this simple tip. You might consider carrying water mixed with a pinch of salt and a little sugar to keep you from dehydrating on long trips.

3)Select a menu that includes fruits like watermelon, cucumber and oranges. Try to eat food that is healthy and easy to digest.

4)Make sure you taste Indian summer specials like lassi and sharbat. These drinks are sure to cool down your system and are a treat on the taste buds. Don’t forget fruit juices can help too. Make sure you carry some along, especially if you need to be on the road on summer days.

5)Wash you face and eyes with cool and clean water as often as possible while travelling outdoors. But make sure the water is clean!!

6)It is best to avoid outings between 11 am and 4 pm when the sun is at its peak. Try to plan your visits early in the day or in the evenings.

7)Avoid eating spicy food and meat. This can prove hard especially with almost all Indian food being spicy. But it’s not altogether impossible to find light and hearty meals!

8)Remember to carry sunscreen lotion or sun block and a pair of sun glasses wherever you go.

9)Use Vaseline or lip gloss to keep your lips from cracking.

10)Pack up a hat/cap or umbrella in case you have to walk on your outings.

These tips are fairly simple but make a lot of difference in reducing the impact of heat on your health. Exploring India is a fascinating experience in season or otherwise. If you find yourself caught up in the Indian heat these tips will go a long way in making your visit an enjoyable one.
