Medaka Box

Medaka Box is an anime series based on a manga written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Akira Akatsuki.

The series begins with Medaka Kurokami, the newly elected Student Council President of Sandbox Academy, instituting a suggestion box in order to get suggestions from the students. During her campaign, when she mentioned the suggestion box, she said, "Your dreams belong to you. Go after them and make them come true yourself. Your worries, however, belong to me. Send them all my way!"

The series also introduces Zenkichi Hitoyoshi, Medaka's friend since childhood. While he may act like he's annoyed with Medaka's bossing him around, Zenkichi admits at the end of the first episode that he's in love with her.

The first item that appears in the suggestion box is a note saying that some third-year delinquents have taken over the kendo club hall, which has been abandoned since the club disbanded. Medaka and Zenkichi look into the matter, and Medaka uses her abilities to remedy the situation. By the end of the first episode, there's a tenuously formed kendo club. And as Medaka starts having more success dealing with matters addressed in the suggestion box, it gains popularity and becomes known as the Medaka Box.

When I read the description for the series, it sounded like it had an interesting idea behind it. While there is a potentially good story there, the first episode was filled with a lot of "fanservice," which primarily revolves around Medaka's large breasts. I personally would have enjoyed the episode more if there hadn't been as much of the fanservice. But since the original source material is a shonen (boys') manga series, the fanservice is going to be included in order to attract the primary demographic.

From the first episode, there appears to be some potential for Medaka Box, as long as you don't mind seeing quite a bit of fanservice as you're watching the show. It's not a bad show, but it's not one that I'm planning to go out of my way to watch more of.

Personally, I would recommend Medaka Box to anime viewers who are 15 or 16 years of age and older.
