The main protagonist of the series is Teiichi Niya, a first-year middle school student at Seikyou Private Academy. He is a member of the school's Paranormal Investigations club.
The president of the club is Yuuko Kanoe, who is actually a ghost with no memories. She is known around the school as "Yuuko-san" from the various ghost stories that circulate around the campus. Teiichi has joined to club to help investigate Yuuko's death. Yuuko is interested in Teiichi romantically, and becomes jealous if another girl gets close to him.
Kirie Kanoe is another member of the Paranormal Investigations club, and is the only other character besides Teiichi who can see Yuuko. Momoe Okonogi is the only other member of the club, and is the only one who can't see Yuuko. Momoe likes to look around the school for ghost stories for the club to investigate.
When I watched the first episode of Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, I thought the concept was an interesting one. At the beginning of the episode, we see Momoe in the club room, and she is having things inexplicably happen to her, such as her cup moving from the spot where she put it down. After the first commercial break, the first couple of scenes are shown again, but this time, the audience gets to see that the unexplained things are being caused by Yuuko. I thought this was a great way to introduce the concept of the series.
Admittedly, the animation wasn't anything spectacular, but it works for the tone of the series. Content-wise, there was only part of one scene in the first episode that I thought wouldn't be terribly appropriate for younger viewers. And the objectionable part was primarily in dialogue, since it was taking place in a dark location; it was only at the end when anything visual in regards to the dialogue was shown.
Personally, I would recommend Dusk Maiden of Amnesia to anime viewers who are 14 or 15 years of age and older.
