Koko Hekmatyar is an arms dealer who sells weapons as HCLI, an international shipping corporation that secretly deals in arms. She's a rather cheery person, almost to the point of being childish. Koko has several bodyguards, who have their own specialties: Lehm, Valmet, Mao, R, Ugo, Lutz, Tojo, and Wiley.
Jonah is a child soldier who Koko hires into the corporation in the first episode. Jonah's family was killed and he's out for revenge against the person responsible for their deaths. Even though he hates guns, he joins Koko's crew.
The first episode of the series focuses solely on Jonah and his introduction into Koko's group. I enjoyed what I saw in the first episode, but I'm not sure if it's truly indicative of what the rest of the series is going to be like. But it's definitely a promising start.
Computer animation is utilized for the vehicles, as well as for some of the establishing shots. While you can still tell that there's a difference between the computer animation and the cel animation, the technology is utilized in such a way that the computer animation is used a little more subtly than it did in earlier productions that tried to use this technique.
Character design is another strong point for this series, and I assume some of the credit for this needs to go to Keitaro Takahashi, the creator of the manga series. Each character has a very distinct look, and I think their designs help to enhance the feel and tone of the anime.
Contest-wise, from what I saw in the first episode of Jormungand, it appears that it will have a bit of violence. There were some gunfights in the first episode, and there were several shots that included blood.
When FUNimation posted the stream of Jormungand on their website, they gave the series a rating of TV-MA. Because of this rating, I can only truly recommend this series to anime viewers who are 18 years of age and older.
