Are You a Missing or Abducted Child?

Steve Carter knew he was adopted from a Hawaiian Orphanage at the age of four, yet in 2010 he turned to the internet to try and learn more about his biological parents. Carter hoped to find answers to the questions he had about the first four years of his life before being adopted and after he read a story on CNN about a woman named Nejdra Nance who discovered she was abducted as an infant in 1987 from a Harlem Hospital. The infant named Carlina White was taken within days of being born 27 years before she learned her true identity online. She later tracked down her biological parents and was reunited with her family.

Carlina White discovered her abduction history on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) website missingkids dot com. According to ABC News, “In 2010, Steve Carter searched for cases of children reported missing in Hawaii. He found an age-progression image that looked very similar to himself, created from a photograph of a baby named Marx Panama Moriarty Barnes”. After confirming the resemblance of the baby in the picture with his adoptive parents and the similarity to the age-progressed picture to his current self with friends he did what the website told him to do and called the Honolulu police department.

After the Honolulu authorities began investigating Steve Carter's concerns related to the abduction of baby Marx Panama Moriarty Barnes he provided a DNA sample which determined he was indeed baby Barnes. Marx Panama Moriarty Barnes was a five month old infant reported missing along with his biological mother Charlotte Marcella Moriarty by his biological father, Mark Barnes in 1977. Carter has since learned that his mother, Charlotte Moriarty, would often leave for days or weeks at a time but always returned. However, in June of 1977 Moriarty took her son for a walk and this time she did not come home.

When authorities did find Moriarty and her infant son, she provided authorities with falsified names for both of them, and altered her son's date of birth by one day. This prevented authorities from finding the baby's family at that time. It is believed Moriarty was admitted to a psychiatric hospital and Carter sent to an orphanage until he was adopted a few years later.

In the past I have recommended people Google their names in various forms to find out what personal information is available about them on the internet. Today I am recommending that anyone with questions or concerns that do not seem to add up regarding their childhood years to consider visiting the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) website to do their own research. The World Wide Web offers information that years ago would be hard to find, where today checking out your own personal information has never been easier.
