When Nicholas Colt agreed to meet up with an old friend little did he know his life was about to change forever. Donna asked Nick to look for her brother who disappeared over fourteen months ago. He was a policeman in Tennessee who had answered a domestic disturbance call, only to disappear. Inside the house were two bodies – an elderly woman and her widowed daughter-in-law. Her husband and grandson were missing.
Nicholas hesitated to take the case, but when he heard each woman was mutilated and left with a carved slanted cross on their forehead, he immediately changed his mind. When he looked at the crime scene photos he realized the cross was the same as found on the murdered sister of his adopted daughter.
Harvest Angels had claimed her killing. It was believed at the time the group had been shut down, but now it looked as if they had resurfaced in Tennessee.
Although he was no longer a licensed Private Investigator, Nick decided to tackle the case and headed to Tennessee. His first evening there he was beaten up by a couple of locals, but kept on with the investigation. He eventually decided the murders were due to gambling debts and returned to Florida.
When he arrived back home, he found his wife and daughter tied up in a bedroom. They had been beaten; a slanted cross carved in each forehead. They were barely alive. The intruder was still in the house and after a brief, intense fight Nick killed the intruder and rescued his family.
He sent his wife and daughter to Manila where his wife was from in order to keep them safe and returned to Tennessee to put an end to this terror - only to fall into a deeper kind of hell.
Crosscut by Jude Hardin is the second Nicholas Colt novel following Pocket-47. This is a page-turner in every sense of the word. Non-stop action makes this psychological thriller difficult to set down. Every time you think you have heard it all, the author takes the story to a whole new level.
The mind-control, terror and pain inflicted upon various victims seem unending. From start to finish the storyline unfolds with increasing horror until a satisfying ending. Curious readers will wonder where the author will next take his engaging hero.
