There's something very simplistic about Poppy that makes it enjoyable for any age. I did find the writing had a somewhat choppy feel to it (which I think was meant to show Poppy's personality as the narrator), but the dialogue was largely well done enough to show Reed's character. There's just enough of a twist at the end to keep my interest for book two, but I also felt the ending was way too abrupt.
My Recommendation
Despite the somewhat halting narrative, Poppy by Riana Lucas is a nice diversion. Although not on the level of great epics, this is a quick read that would be enjoyed by fantasy fans of all ages.
