As we continue to live our best lives on this earth let's not forget to bestow a compassionate hand to those who need it.
In his famous Letter From Birmingham Jail, Dr. Martin Luther King announced that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly… Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider…”
Dr. King was of course referring to the plights of African Americans fighting for their rights during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. He was speaking about the epidemic of injustice that was taking place in our country at that time. Now, another epidemic has occurred. It is an epidemic that has claimed the lives of many of our teens. That epidemic is bullying.
I would like to continue by acknowledging the efforts of someone who is dedicated to eradicating the bullying epidemic. This individual's name is Katherine Mayfield. Katherine Mayfield is the award-winning author of The Box of Daughter: Healing the Authentic Self, two books on the acting business: Smart Actors, Foolish Choices and Acting A to Z, both published by Back Stage Books, and Dysfunctional Families: Exposing the Secrets Behind Closed Doors.
Recently, Ms. Mayfield brought to my attention her project for helping young teens who have become victims of bullying. She believes that she can help those who are being bullied by using emotional intelligence. She says that emotional intelligence is needed because, “Society has discouraged the acknowledgment and expression of feelings.” Ms. Mayfield has been open about her intense emotional feelings as a child and wants to let every teen know that they are not alone in their struggles.
Katherine has also expressed her desire to self-publish a book on bullying. Her reasons are to let teens know that the feelings they have are natural and everyone has them whether they show them or not, to offer them strategies for coping with bullying, and to teach them the skills and tools of emotional intelligence so that they can express their feelings in a healthy way. This book will be filled with tips that will help both bullies and the victims of bullies.
Since Katherine and I share the same passion and energy for helping teens across the world, I feel honored to assist her with her project by sharing it with you. She is asking you to go to her site, watch her video about bullying and what she is doing to prevent it, and donate to her cause. Any amount helps!
Also, a portion of the funds and book profits will be donated to worthy anti-bullying organizations such as the National Center for Bullying Prevention. Bullying is an epidemic that is taking the lives of America’s young people and it must be stopped.
Our young people are the builders of tomorrow. Their bright and creative minds have the power of bringing into existence the innovations and resolutions of tomorrow. They truly are our future. The bullying epidemic is endangering the lives of our young people and the future of this country. So, let’s support Katherine Mayfield in her effort to express the dangers of bullying and the benefits of emotional intelligence! The future of our young people depends on our willingness and courage.
