Run to Ground Review

Tim and Martha Foster and their seven-year-old son Steven were living a comfortable suburban life when tragedy struck. Young Steven was brutally murdered. Far too soon his killer was getting out of prison due to a technicality.

Walt Whitiker had taunted and threatened the Fosterís even when he was behind bars. They feared what he would do once he was released. Feeling like they had no other choice, the couple spent months plotting a revenge that included murder. Considering every minute detail, they were sure their plan was foolproof.

The day Whitiker walked out of prison he was gunned down before he could barely taste freedom. The Fosters put their well-rehearsed plan into action and traveled to their new home to live out their lives with their new identity, leaving behind friends, family, their jobs, and their former life.

What the Fosters didnít expect was the dogged determination of Dub Walker, forensic evidence and criminal behavior expert who took over the case with his best friend, homicide investigator T-Tommy Tortelli. They also had the help Walkerís ex-wife, TV reporter Claire McBride. Once the three got on the scent of the missing couple nothing could stop them. But, were they really on the right trail?

Run to Ground is the third in the Dub Walker series written by award-winning author D. P. Lyle, himself a forensic expert. Lyle has crafted an intricate story with intriguing characters the reader will connect with on an emotional level. Itís even tempting to root for the Fosters who lost their young son in such a hideous way; hoping they will get away and be able to start a new life; hoping they can move on from the horror of the past few years.

While reading about the author and this story, I learned that the phrase run to ground means going after something as long and as far as it takes. Thatís what Dub Walker and his cohorts have to do in order to find out the truth and bring the killers to justice.

This story will no doubt touch emotional hot buttons while leaving readers with thoughts and feelings about how they would react if something like this happened to one of their children. Bringing emotions to the surface is a sign of a good author, and Lyle is one of the best in this area.
