Mixed Signals Review

Private investigator David Randall agreed to give his friend Camden a ride to the house of another friend, Jared Hunter, so that Camden could finish working on a project. When they arrived, they found Jared lying in a pool of blood on his garage floor, his laundry scattered all around the washer and dryer.

In just a matter of minutes, Camdenís psychic ability provided him with flashbacks as to who may have attacked his friend. Although officer Jordan Finley told David not to get involved in trying to solve the crime, David knew for Camdenís sake he had to do what he could to find the killer.

What a start to the Christmas season! David dives right into the search for the murderer following the few clues he has. In the meantime, a self-proclaimed crime fighter called the Parkland Avenger is running around the city getting in the way of the police. But the Superhero Society of Parkland say he is not a part of their outfit.

Davidís girlfriend Kary insisted on getting involved with the search for the killer despite Davidís warnings. Sophia, his mom, showed up with a totally different, and much younger and more stylish, look. The PI searches for an allusive woman by the name of Alycia Ward who could have a bearing on the murder case. And, officer Jordon continues to warn David off the case as the suspect list mounts.

Can David and his friends find the killer before Christmas? They are hoping to so they can enjoy the upcoming holidays.

Mixed Signals is the second Grace Street Mystery written by Jane Tesh following Stolen Hearts. She is also the author of the Madeline Maclin Mysteries, a popular series of three books at the time of this review.

The authorís writing is easy to read and filled with a humor that does not take away from the seriousness of the crime. The quirky recurring characters add continuity to the series and the storyline flows from scene to scene.

Because the story is easy to read does not mean it is lacking in depth. The author deals with such topics as complicated relationships and unresolved grief.

A special thank you goes to Poisoned Pen Press for providing us with a complimentary copy of Mixed Signals for our review. If you are interested in any of the Grace Street or Madeline Maclin mysteries, they are available at Amazon.com.
