Homeschooling Book Club for Moms Update

Homeschooling at the Speed of Life is a blessing for sure. I think just the idea of acknowledging that I am running hard and fast was a relief. I have gotten a number of emails from fellow homeschool moms who feel similar. The concensus seems to be that many of us feel not only overwhelmed, but also lonely. I am excited to create a supportive atmosphere with this book club, and be able to share ideas and thoughts without judgement. Please email me and let me know if you are reading along, and post in the forum, too. I hope to get an online chat together soon, also.

My progress got started slow with the book, as the holidays were busy and encompassing. To date I have completed chapters 1,2, and half of 3. I have yet to do all the Bible study aspects, however. I am definitely excited to refer to the Scriptures for advice as well. I have done the workbook pages, though. My favorite part so far has to be page 33. I really needed to hear that it is ok to prioritize my family and homeschooling, and say no to volunteer jobs I truly do not have time for. How about you all? Do you find that you are overwhelmed and tired? Do you find it hard to not say yes to everything that others ask of you? Let me know!

Another area I have found useful is evaluating my home life and housework. I happen to be a traditional minded gal, and I do the majority of the housework, cooking and grocery shopping. I am fortunate that I can be home full time and not work, as my hubby is the breadwinner. I am thankful to God and to him for that opportunity. With that being said, it is not really too fun folding laundry, doing dishes and other tasks day in and day out. After reading chapter 2 I realized that my laundry and dishes often go awry because I have been plain old lazy! I wish I had an excuse! :) So, I have started turning off the computer when I have chores to do, and just getting it done. I'll let you all know how long I keep it up! Please note, I am not saying my way of doing things is "right", I am just stating what I am doing. I know there are working moms reading this book and homeschooling, gals who homeschool but don't cook, etc. Everyone is different. That is a good thing! Hopefully you can glean some helpful information from Marilyn's book thus far, and be able to apply it to your life. Don't forget to email me or post on the forum with your thoughts!
