Mark O’Meara partnered with his dad Robert at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-AM in 1990.
David Duval and father Bob both won a professional golf event on the same day in 1999, David on the PGA Tour, and Bob on the Champions Tour.
There are many examples of father and son golfers and other great stories of golf in the extended family.
One of the most famous names in golf, Nicklaus, also spans generations of golfers. Jack Nicklaus, better known as The Golden Bear, won majors and set records. His sons Gary and Jackie were also golf professionals but never won a tour event. Jackie did caddy for Jack during his last Masters win at Augusta.
The Haas golf family includes Jay and his brother Jerry, Jay's sons Jay Jr. and Bill, Jay’s uncle Bob Goalby, and Jay’s brother-in-law Dillard Pruitt. Between them are several major championships, PGA tour wins, Champions Tour wins, and numerous awards and accolades.
Father and Grandson:
Arnold Palmer is maybe the greatest golfer of all time. His grandson Sam Saunders is looking to make a name for himself but with big shoes to fill. Saunders is struggling with “Q” school at the same age as Palmer was when he winning his second Masters title. They are very big shoes.
Aunt and Nephew:
Pat Bradley is a LPGA “hall of famer” with multiple major championship wins to her name. Her nephew Keegan Bradley is following in Aunt Pat’s footsteps already with his first major win just a few years after joining the PGA tour. Keegan continues to compete and is looking to add additional titles to the family collection.
Nephew and Niece:
Tiger Woods is a name recognized around the world, in the golfing community, with superstar status and much success, especially at a young age. Earl Woods taught his son Tiger the game of golf, and it’s the same game he also taught to his granddaughter Cheyenne Woods. Cheyenne is Tiger’s niece and she’s making a name for herself on the LPGA tour after cleaning up in the amateur and college ranks.
Payne Stewart Award:
Aaron Stewart was only 10 years when his father Payne Stewart tragically and unexpectedly lost his life in an airplane accident. Payne’s legacy lives on as fellow PGA professional players Lee Janzen and Paul Azinger have each stepped in over the years to partner with Aaron in the Father-Son Challenge.
Other father-son notables include Craig and Kevin Stadler, Al and Brent Geiberger, Gary and Wayne Player, Seve and Javier Ballesteros.
