1862 - The Battle of Shiloh began as part of the Civil War.

1896 - The first Olympics of the modern era began in Athens, Greece.

1917 - The U.S. officially entered World War I by declaring war on Germany.

1925 - The first in-flight movie was shown on an airplane!

1931 - “Little Orphan Annie” debuted on NBC radio.

1938 - Roy Plunkett invented Teflon today!

1954 - Swanson’s TV Dinners were first sold today!

1980 - Post-It notes were first introduced by 3M.

David Bloom journalist for NBC news passed away in 2003 at the age of 39.

Greer Garson who starred in “Mrs. Miniver” passed away in 1996 at the age of 91.

Prince Rainier Grimaldi III of Monaco passed away in 2005 at the age of 81.

Raphael who also celebrated his birthday today, passed away in 1520 at the age of 37.

Igor Stravinsky the famed Russian composer/conductor passed away in 1871 at the age of 88.

Wendy O. Williams the front person for the band The Plasmatics died in 1998 at the age of 48.

Tammy Wynette the legendary country music songstress behind the hit “Stand By Your Man” passed away in 1998 at the age of 55.
