1853 - Harriet Tubman began her work on the Underground Railroad.

1860 - The first rider for the Pony Express arrived in San Francisco, California.

1865 - President Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theater in Washington, DC.

1912 - The RMS Titanic struck an iceberg at approximately 11:40 pm. It would sink just hours later.

Abigail Breslin who starred in “Little Miss Sunshine” was born in 1996.

Adrian Brody who won an Academy Award for “The Pianist” and also starred in “King Kong” was born in 1973.

Robert Carlyle who starred in “The Full Monty”, “Trainspotting” and “The World is Not Enough” was born in 1961.

Julie Christie who starred in “Doctor Zhivago” as well as appeared in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” and “Troy” was born in 1941.

Da Brat the renowned female rapper was born in 1974.

Amy Dumas best known to wrestling fans as Lita was born in 1975.

Brad Garrett who starred on TV’s “Everybody Loves Raymond” was born in 1960.

Sarah Michelle Gellar who starred on TV’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and in the movie “The Grudge” was born in 1977.

Sir John Gielgud who won an Oscar for his work in “Arthur” and also appeared in the films “Shine” and “Elizabeth” was born in 1904.

Anthony Michael Hall who starred in “The Breakfast Club”, “Sixteen Candles”, “Weird Science” and on TV’s “The Dead Zone” was born in 1968.

David Miller a member of the singing group Il Divo was born in 1973.

Richard Jeni the actor/comedian who starred on TV’s “Platypus Man” was born in 1957.

David Justice the former baseball player was born in 1966.

Loretta Lynn the legendary country singer who had hit songs with “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “Lead Me On” was born in 1935.

Greg Maddux the Cy Young award winning baseball pitcher was born in 1966.

Peter Rose the renowned baseball player was born in 1941.

John Shea who starred on TV’s “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” was born in 1949.

Rod Steiger who starred in “On the Waterfront”, “In the Heat of the Night” and “End of Days” was born in 1925.

Anne Sullivan the famed teacher who worked with Helen Keller was born in 1866.

We Said Goodbye To…

Ellen Corby best remembered as Grandma Walton from TV’s “The Waltons” passed away in 1999 at the age of 87.

Pete Farndon who was the bass player for the rock band The Pretenders passed away in 1983 at the age of 30.

George Frederic Handel the great composer passed away in 1759 at the age of 74.

Don Ho the singer best known for "Tiny Bubbles" passed away in 2007 at the age of 76.

Burl Ives the actor/singer/entertainer who was the voice of the Snowman in the animated “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and an Oscar winner for his work in the film “The Big Country” passed away in 1995 at the age of 85.

Fredric March who starred in “The Best Years of Our Lives”, “Death of a Salesman” and “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” passed away in 1975 at the age of 77.
