Overview The Suit of Swords

In the Tarot, the various suits also correspond to different stages of a process. They represent the various elements such as earth, air, fire, and water that also correspond with these stages. The Swords represent the air element which focuses on communication, wisdom, and the powers of the mind. Swords are also the cards of action - actions being taken or the universe telling you to come up with a plan of action. In Tarot, an abundance of Swords means that things are set in motion and the questioner is now taking (or about to) move forward. Swords represent a good time to consider one's actions, or lack thereof, to see what improvements can be made.

Swords correspond nicely with cups as they indicate a good blend of logic and intuition. Seeing the two equally balanced tends to point to well-rounded choices and plans. When you see an overabundance of swords with very little other energy in a spread it can indicate that the questioner may be "over analyzing" a situation and not heeding the call of their intuition fully. Imbalanced swords can also indicate hasty actions or impulsive behaviors as well. If there are many reversals, they tend to point to inaction or stasis which will continue to lead to disappointment.

Properly balanced, the swords are very motivating. They speak of the ability to "cut through" opposition and obstacles on one's path and represent a take charge or can do attitude. Because they are associated with analytical mindsets they tend to indicate that a challenge can be solved or that now is a good time to take action on ideas. Well balanced swords are good for strategy and executing plans. Swords for sure mean a lot of activity and changes manifesting.

For those who have heard of or practice the "Law of Attraction" Swords represent the start of the manifesting process where one's thoughts and energy are aligned with their goal and things are set in motion.

Upright Swords:
Forward thinking
strong planning skills
constructive actions

Reversed Swords:

Hasty actions or reacting, rather than thinking things through
