In the 28th book by Mary Pope Osborne, Jack and Annie are sent by Morgan le Fay to find the last of the four kinds of magic. When they enter their tree house, they find a message from Morgan le Fay directing them to find their fourth special magic with these words: “To find a special magic, build a special kind of ship that rides the waves, both high and low, on every kind of trip.”
That’s why, when the tree house spins faster and faster and finally landing on old Hawaii, Jack is trying to figure out how to build a ship.
Meanwhile, Jack and Annie make friends with native Hawaiian children. And, like in all of their adventures, they learn interesting facts about their destination. One, Hawaii is a chain of islands formed by volcanoes millions of years ago. Two, birds drop seeds that grow into plants and trees. The Frog Creek Kids, Jack and Annie, get to try one of their new friends' favorite pastimes, surfing.
In fact, while surfing in the ocean they meet their biggest challenge. Jack feels an earthquake while surfing. He knows that earthquakes can mean huge waves, Tsunamis. A Tsunami is on the way! He must get Annie and their new friends back to shore, fast!
The islanders celebrate and praise Jack for saving everyone. He suddenly realizes the magic Morgan le Fay wants them to discover is not a ship, but friendship.
Annie and Jack return to the tree house. Morgan le Fay is there. She calls Annie and Jack the Magicians of Everyday Magic. The Frog Creek Kids have discovered the magic of theater, the magic of animals, the magic of community and the magic of friendship.
The Magic Tree House books series fans look forward to more adventures. Morgan tells Annie and Jack, they will need to use their Everyday Magic when they go to the “realm of fantasy."
