1946 - A failed escape attempt resulted in the Battle of Alcatraz in the famed island prison.

1955 - Tennessee Williams who wrote “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” won the Pulitzer Prize for his work.

1969 - The Queen Elizabeth 2 began her maiden voyage.

1997 - Tony Blair officially became the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister.

Ray Traylor best known as wrestling’s Big Boss Man was born in 1962.

Donatella Versace the fashion designer was born in 1955.

Jack Barry the host of the TV game show “Twenty-One” passed away in 1984 at the age of 66.

Leonardo da Vinci the renowned artist/sculptor/architect whose works include the Mona Lisa passed away in 1519 at the age of 67.

J. Edgar Hoover the infamous former director of the F.B.I. passed away in 1972 at the age of 77.

Joseph McCarthy the U.S. Senator and driving force of the anti-Communism movement passed away in 1957 at the age of 48.

Oliver Reed who starred in “Oliver!” passed away in 1999 at the age of 61.
