You can tell more about a person by what he says about others than you can by what others say about him - Audrey Hepburn.
I first saw this quote on a social networking site - facebook - that someone had written as their status. When people do this, which is usually quite often, I believe that they are trying to express how they feel through other peoples words, as these can sometimes be more inspiring than our own. It is a way of showing people how we feel, by relating it to more famous people who themselves have also felt the same.
When I first read this quote, I was quite confused. I always find it interesting to work out what the quote they are sharing actually means.
This quote is to do with how we can define people, through their personalities and how we perceive them by doing this. Sometimes, as I think this quote is trying to explain, we are able to understand the way people are and the way they think through how they talk about others, if it is genuine or if we know that it is the opposite of this. We are able to learn more about a person using their own words, rather than the words of others describing this person. I think this quote can go deeper in the sense that people tend to picture or present themselves in a certain way to other people, which can therefore make these people create their own conceptions about how this person is and how they will act however we can understand, I believe, a person through our own intuitions when we are around them, not by how they are trying to present themselves infront of other people.
This quote was quite complex, in order to understand the exact meaning of what it is, that can define someone to others. I liked the way Audrey Hepburn used this quote in a complex way which makes the readers think more about how we would define people, what we would rather choose. I am interested to look into more of her quotes which also elicit this reaction.
