I know, you can hardly stop laughing. Now let me tell you about one of my favorite websites ever. It's called Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts at:

http://www.mamagenas.com/

This is one of those life-changing websites which, as you know, is rare thing in this day of a gazillion sites for every possible thing imaginable. It seems that nearly everyone has a website and each of those is filled with information either designed and targeted at selling you something or to give you advice of some nature.

But take heart because the instant you read Mama Gena's articles you know she's talking straight with you. You have no doubt, none at all, that what she says is the truth and is worthy of your attention.

How do you know this? You will know it because what Mama Gena writes is created from love and experience. Her words are thoughtful, her ideas fresh, and her advice tough but always life-affirming. And it's FUN which is something we all need much more of in our lives every day.

I especially learned a lot about a phenomenon particular to women called negative pleasure.

This term is what Mama Gena uses to describe how you can go for so long without fun and pleasure in your life that you actually begin enjoying negative things in its place out of desperation. Negative pleasure is like eating candy all of the time instead of nourishing food - you never feel hungry but you'll die of starvation.

One of my old negative pleasure tricks (among hundreds) was to go to the grocery store at dawn and walk around with a cup of coffee and shop leisurely. This doesn't sound all that bad does it? It's not save for the fact that I hate grocery shopping!

What I was really doing was using that time at the grocery store to be alone, to walk alone with my thoughts and enjoy solitude. So it was pleasurable experience because I was enjoying the alone time, but it was also a negative one because I hate grocery shopping.

I just didn't feel I could justify being so selfish to demand alone time when life was so busy. But by reading Mama Gena I came to realize it is not selfish to make room for those things you need in order to be a better person. Now I carve out time every morning on purpose to be alone and enjoy my thoughts and journal or to just sit and stare at the wall.

This website talks about pleasure in all of its forms, about fun and happiness, all things that women tend to take as the icing of life rather than the cake. And it's these things that we women tend to feel very guilty about asking for or demanding because we mistake pleasure, fun, and happiness for self indulgence when in fact they're not - they're required for keeping our sanity!

So check out the Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts site and see what shakes. I think you will be very glad you did. I sure am!
