The Most Important Meal of the Day

The old adage about breakfast being the most important meal of the day isnít a joke. As diabetics our first meal to break our fast will help us maintain our blood sugar throughout the day.

As a diabetic your food choices will either help or hinder how the rest of your day. A Starbucks and pastry is not a good choice. Listed are few good breakfast choices.

Following different dietary guidelines is crucial.

You no longer have to rule out cereals in your diet. More and more companies are making low carb versions also Kashi cereals are good. Remember the more fiber the better in your cereal. To get the net carb take the carb count minus the fiber count and that will be the true net carb count for the cereal. Be sure to add some fresh fruit to dress up the plain cereal.

Another good option is non-fat, low sugar yogurt, again be sure to add some fresh fruit. It can make it a tasty addition to your boring breakfast.

Protein will give you many options from eggs to meat. However as diabetics fat content is key. Eggs are always a good choice along with turkey meat. Turkey is now available in many ways from sausage to ham and is easier on your body.

Soy is also another good option. Soy has proven to help prevent cancer and is a new and different addition to your staid breakfast routine. See if you can get a sample from a friend or supermarket before committing to that quart or other soy product. Go to the website to see if the manufacturer offers coupons and be sure to check the Sunday circulars.

These are but a few examples to liven up your breakfast routine. There are numerous other products out there to liven up your boring breakfast. Remember it doesnít always have to be the same thing.
