Missing Child - Trenton Duckett

An amber alert issued in Leesburg Florida is for a 2-year-old boy named Trenton J. Duckett. Trenton lives with his mother Melinda Duckett in the Windemere Villa Apartments in Leesburg Florida. Melinda Duckett says she tucked Trenton safely into his bed around 7 p.m. on Sunday August 27. Just two hours later Melinda called authorities to say her son was missing and the screen on Trenton’s bedroom window had been cut open.

Police have questioned Trenton’s family, friends, and neighbors at the apartment complex, including local sex offenders. Police would like to talk to anyone who lives at or was visiting the Windemere Villa Apartments between 5:00pm and 10:00pm Sunday August 27.

Melinda and Joshua Duckett, Trenton’s parents, met in high school. They are the same age, and were married in July 2005. Trenton was getting ready to turn one year old when they wed. They separated earlier this year, and were living in separate towns. Melinda filed for divorce in June, and according to Joshua, he last saw his son in June. Melinda had custody of Trenton at the time of his disappearance.

Police confirm Melinda also had a temporary restraining order against Trenton’s father, Joshua Duckett after he had threatened to kill her and Trenton. Joshua Duckett lives with his mom in Sumter County and works as an electrician. He was at his mom’s house at the time Trenton disappeared. He has taken and passed a polygraph test regarding his son’s disappearance. Police have not charged Joshua with any crime and stress everyone is a potential suspect, including both his parents.

Trenton’s grandfather James Duckett is on death row for the murder and rape of eleven-year-old, Teresa McAbee. James a former Mascotte police officer was 28-year old at the time of his conviction and Joshua Duckett was barely two years old when his father went to prison.

Before posting this article, there was a tragic twist to this story. Emergency and law enforcement officials responded to house belonging to Nancy and Billy Eubank’s, the grandparents of Melinda Duckett. The response came after a 911 for help came around 3 p.m. on Friday September 8. Police confirm they found they body of twenty-one year old Melinda Duckett dead from a single gunshot wound to the head. From all outward appearances, Trenton’s Mother committed suicide. The Eubank's have provided care for Trenton on a regular basis.

According to Leesburg police, Melinda Duckett's death is a significant blow in the search to find Trenton Duckett. Police had begun creating a time line of Trenton’s daily life, focusing on the days immediately before his disappearance. Melinda Duckett was the one person who could clarify the details of the days before Trenton's disappearance. Police had hoped the time line would give them added insight and possible clues into the little boy’s disappearance.

at the time of his disappearance Trenton was wearing a blue and green striped shirt, blue denim shorts, and no shoes according to the report given by Melinda Duckett who says she placed him in his bed. Trenton is 3 feet tall and weighs nearly 35 pounds. The little boy has brown hair and brown eyes. If you have seen Trenton Duckett or have any information about his disappearance, please call the Leesburg Police Department at (352) 787-2121.

Update:
As the three year anniversary came and went for Trenton Duckett, his father clings to hope that his son is still out there alive. Although law enforcement continue to investigate the disappearance of Trenton Duckett, there are mixed feelings regarding whether or not Trenton's mother Melinda may have killed the boy before she committed suicide just two weeks later. Trenton would now be five years old. Someone out there knows what happened to Trenton Duckett. If you have information please call the Leesburg Police department.
