What should be known and must be remembered is that this Act not only provides for gay and lesbian partnerships, it also provides for male, female partnerships for ages 62 and older who live together and take care for each other physically and financially. The Domestic Partnership Act gives non traditional partners certain rights and benefits afforded now to family members and husband or wife only. Hospital visitation rights in the case of grave illness and the right to medical decisions as well as legal decisions for a partner when necessary. If you are in a non traditional relationship and you live in a State that has approved the Domestic Partnership Act, take some time to read the act to better understand it or see an attorney to have it explained to you to see if you qualify for an Affidavit of Domestic Partnership, Certificate of Domestic Partnership. Those who have a parent in such a relationship should talk to him or her concerning this important issue.
