| Project Information: • Skill level: Basic • AdobeR PhotoshopR CS • General tips Its fall and it will soon be Halloween. If your project is about Halloween or just an autumn theme you might want a harvest moon in the sky. Here is a simple and fast method to create a harvest moon in PhotoshopR CS. The moon will be on a transparent background making it easy for you to copy and paste it into the project of your choice. ![]() Step 1. Start a new image. Open the Photoshop CS program. We will start with an image that is 400 pixels wide and 400 pixels high. We will also start with a black background. This black background will make it easier for you to see and work on your moon. You will be able to replace it with the background of your choice later. Click on the Default Colors Icon to set the Foreground and Background Color Boxes to the default colors (black and white). Now click on the Switch Colors Icon to reverse the background color from white to black. On the Menu bar, click File > New to open the New dialog box and set the following values.

To start a new layer, click on the New Layer Icon at the bottom of the Layers palette. You will see a new layer above the black background layer. This second layer has a transparent background. Let's rename the layer. Right click on this layer in the Layers palette and select Layer Properties to open the Layer Properties dialog box. Name the new layer "Moon" and click OK. ![]() Layers Palette Next → AdobeR product screen shot(s) reprinted with permission from Adobe Systems Incorporated.
