Holiday parties are a natural outgrowth of the holidays and celebrations at home and in the office, but be aware of how much alcoholic "good cheer" you are consuming. The National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (NIAAA)advices us drink moderately; men should limit their drinking to two drinks per day. Women should stick to one drink.
The NIAAA dfefines one drink as follows:
One 12-ounce bottle of beer or wine cooler
One 5-ounce glass of wine
1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits
The institute defines binge drinking as four drinks in one sitting for a woman and five drinks for a man. It says women become more intoxicated than men and increase their blood alcohol concentration when they drink the same amount of alcohol as men, because women have less water in their bodies than men.
