After less than three years of marriage, pregnant actress Denise Richards has filed for divorce from her husband, actor Charlie Sheen. In court papers filed yesterday, March 2nd, Richards, 34, is claiming "irreconcilable differences" as the basis for her divorce petition.
The actress has retained celebrity attorney Laura Wasser, who handled the divorce of Angelina Jolie from Billy Bob Thorton, as well as cases for other high profile clients like Stevie Wonder, and Kiefer Sutherland, to help with the divorce proceedings.
In the legal papers, which are available for viewing at the website for the television show "Celebrity Justice," Richards' demands include miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects, as well as all monies earned by her from the date of the separation until the divorce in finalized.
But the real heart of the petition is Richard's demand for full custody of the couple's one-year old daughter, as well as the couple's second child, due to be born in June of this year. She is also requesting visitation rights to the children for Sheen, 39.
Sheen and Richards first met while filming the indie film "Good Advice" in 2000, but didn't start dating until after Richards guest-starred on Sheen's series "Spin City," months later.
The couple wed in June 2002, and daughter Sam was born in March 2004.
Professionally, the two worked together in the film, "Scary Movie 3," and Richards guest-starred twice on her husband's CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men."
Richards will appear next in the film, "Edmund," and is set to star in an upcoming UPN pilot titled, "Wildlife." Sheen is currently working on his hit series.
No response has been made by Sheen regarding the pending divorce.
The marriage was Sheen's second and Richards' first.
