William and Kate's Royal Wedding Fashion

On a magical Friday, the 29th of April 2011 at Westminster Abbey, Prince William and Catherine Middleton wed in a ceremony that had the whole world talking. You look beautiful," said Prince William as he met his bride at the altar. In addition to being every girl's dream wedding, the royal wedding was a fashion extravaganza.

Bright Colors for Every Age

In an Angela Kelly lemon primrose dress topped with a coat and a matching hat adorned with silk roses and apricot colored leaves, Queen Elizabeth looked splendid. Carole Middleton looked like a true lady in that Catherine Walker pastel blue dress with pleated pockets. Letizia, the Princess of Asturias* dazzled in a blush tone Felipe Varela embellished dress.

No matter your age, colors can create a fresh look for any occasion. Try a color you've never dared to wear before and you will be surprised by how it can flatter your skin tone.

Too Much Can be Good

Tara Palmer made a great choice; head to toe in electric blue. In your head, that might sound like a fashion disaster. However, the way she wore that off the shoulder Kingfisher dress with a matching hat, gloves, and studded heels was brilliant.

Most of the time, it's not advisable to wear one color head to toe, but with the right amount of accessories and simple pieces, you can pull it off.

A Designer Always Knows Best

Take it from the Duchess of Cornwall, who shone in an Anna Valentine light blue coat and champagne dress. The dress, coat, and bag were all by the same designer. She has been known to wear Valentine's designs more than once every month and she wore one of her creations to her wedding as well.

Carefully take note of which designers/stores better fit your style and needs. You will always find that some have the best fits, colors, and looks. While experimentation is great, these will come to the rescue when you are facing any fashion emergency. Don't forget the Jimmy Choos!

Navy Blue = Elegance

When the likes of Victoria Beckham and Vogue Editor Alexandra Shulman go for this color, we know something is up. Keeping it understated and elegant, Victoria wore her own design and Shulman wore a Christopher Kane skirt and jacket with Manolo Blahnik shoes.

Blazer or evening dress, choose this color for a timeless look. Note: Victoria's 7 inch Louboutins, not recommended.

The Ultimate Wedding Dress

Kate Middleton taught all the brides to be how it's done in a lovely dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The ivory and white satin gazar dress with hand-embroidered lace, a Victorian style corset, and a heavy A-line achieved the delicate balance between detail and refinement. Most importantly, it mixed tradition with modernity.

The dress was inspirational. Unlike the flouncy styles, the dress was structured (including the train pleated to look like a flower). If your wedding is coming up, pick a classic dress, but incorporate a trendy detail. For Kate's look, choose a more composed fabric and design.
